Earendil drops Pi 1.0 with Pi Durable: a minimalist agent that refuses to bloat

By Nadia Ksiazek Clawpit staff

Earendil shipped Pi 1.0 this week, the first official release of its minimalist agent harness, alongside an experimental companion called Pi Durable built for long-running tasks that live outside the terminal. Hundreds of thousands of weekly users already run Pi in production, and their feedback — issues and PRs — pushed the team to harden the code until it could be trusted for daily use. Both packages are MIT-licensed. Install with a single command: `curl -fsSL | sh` on Linux and macOS, or `powershell -c "irm | iex"` on Windows. Pi Durable sits on npm under the `@earendil-works` scope.

The guiding philosophy is simple: don't adopt a trend until it survives the test of time. While agent tooling turns over weekly, the team cherry-picks only what has proven real utility against the complexity it adds. The result is a substrate that runs the latest models from every major provider, serves as a daily driver for developers worldwide, and stays super-malleable without turning into a dependency monster. The approach was laid out in a separate post the team published earlier this week, connecting the process to Codemode and MCP.

Version 1.0 adds: native MCP support via Codemode, including running non-LLM models such as Jev and image models; virtual model extensions; deferred tool loading to cut startup time; cache warming for Anthropic models; mid-conversation system messages that let you swap prompts and tools on the fly; a new TUI theme; and a
