Anthropic launches official Claude add-on for Google Workspace in public beta across all paid plans

The company is embedding its assistant directly into Docs, Sheets and Slides through a sidebar that opens beside the active file — no tab-switching or app-hopping required. Claude reads the open document, recognizes selected text, cells or slides, and makes changes in place. Access relies on existing Google sharing permissions, so no separate permission setup is needed.

In Docs, the model can fix a single sentence or restyle a heading without touching surrounding formatting. For larger rewrites it surfaces proposal cards in the sidebar, each highlighting the passage that would change; the user approves or rejects. You can ask it to tighten an executive summary in a product requirements document and turn the next steps into a table, all inside the file.

In Sheets, Claude writes formulas, builds pivot tables and native Sheets charts, and adds new tabs. For joins or data cleaning it can pull a range into Python, run the logic, and push the result back to the sheet. Starting from a blank spreadsheet, you can attach source files and request a budget-versus-actuals report for the third quarter with a tab per team and a summary chart; the model will also flag budget variances.

In Slides, the add-on creates new slides using the existing presentation's layouts and theme, so they blend in automatically. It then reviews the output and flags overlapping elements, text spilling off the slide, or hard-to-read fonts.

The default mode is "ask before edits": every change appears as an approval card with a summary, and the model waits for confirmation. In "accept all edits" mode Claude runs the task and applies changes without stopping. The user chooses the automation level that fits each task.

When you sign in with a Claude account, the sidebar brings the same models, connectors and skills available in the regular chat. If you need a quarterly business review deck for a client, Claude can pull account history from Salesforce and recent call notes via the Google Drive connector. Save the QBR format as a skill and the team can reproduce the next deck with the same structure and steps.

On Enterprise plans, controls including the Compliance API, customer-managed encryption keys (CMEK) and audit export via OpenTelemetry extend to the add-on.

Google Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors — also in beta — let you start from the Claude chat: paste a link to an existing file or request a new document, spreadsheet or presentation, and on supported systems the file opens in a pane beside the conversation. That entry point is useful when you need a fresh file or when work spans multiple files. Access follows existing Google sharing permissions.

The add-on is available in beta on all paid plans. Install it from the Google Workspace Marketplace, open a file and go to Extensions > Claude > Open Claude. Domain admins can deploy it organization-wide or to selected groups through the Google Admin Console. To enable connectors for editing from Claude, turn them on in settings; on Team and Enterprise plans an owner or primary owner must approve the activation.
