Treg offers agent-based lead search at $0.0089 per record, open source and zero markup

A pricing model that undercuts the market

The treg project, built in collaboration with Jev, positions itself as a direct alternative to Clay — without the $600 monthly subscription. Instead, users pay per result: $0.0089 (about 3.3 agorot) for each lead found and verified. The developers claim an 85% price gap versus Clay. The mechanism is straightforward: the agent selects the cheapest available data provider at the moment of each query, and the user pays only for responses actually received.

Public benchmark with 119 tasks

The accuracy claim rests on LessieAI's People Search Bench, a suite of 119 real-world people-search tasks. The benchmark runs the same agent with and without treg, alongside baselines from Lessie, Exa, and Claude Code. Code and data are on GitHub. This is an independent benchmark, not an internal metric, though it remains a single run — not peer-reviewed and not repeated.

Documented run: 50 companies, 27 verified leads

In a logged run from September 23, 2026, the agent received a list of 50 Series A software companies, filtered 27 that matched the ideal customer profile, located the marketing head at each, and found and verified a business email address. Providers that came up empty — Hunter and Kitt — were charged $0.00. Tomba, the cheapest provider at that moment, was at capacity and incurred no charge. Every call is priced at the provider's official rate at that instant, drawn from a preloaded balance with no added markup.

Fully open source, zero markup, bring your own keys

The project is released as full open source — not just open weights — and the provider catalog updates in real time. New teams receive a $1 starting balance free. An architectural detail: the user's private keys (BYOK) take priority over treg's keys, so if you already have access to a given provider, the system will use yours automatically.

Not just people search

Lead search is only one "pass" in the catalog. The same access token unlocks social-media data collection, SEO, ads, and general scraping. The implication: a single infrastructure that routes each request to the optimal provider for that domain, without locking the user to a single vendor or an annual contract.
