Meta launches enterprise AI platform and taps former MongoDB chief to run it

Meta announced yesterday the launch of Meta Enterprise Platform, a new initiative designed to extend the company's AI offerings to business and enterprise customers. The social-media giant has hired Chirantan "CJ" Desai, until recently chief executive of database company MongoDB, to lead the effort.

The platform is built on Muse, the personal assistant Meta released earlier this month that can handle tasks such as sending emails and booking travel. According to the company, the goal is to deliver the full technology stack — Muse itself, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code and more — as products and services that can be deployed independently.

Desai said that in the coming years AI will redefine how organizations of every size innovate, grow, serve customers and manage operations. He argued that Meta occupies a unique position because it combines advanced models and leading agents with a proven record of helping millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses grow. The new platform will focus on turning that stack into products companies can embed in their own environments.

The move could help Meta realize a return on the billions of dollars it has poured into AI development. Meanwhile, MongoDB shares fell more than 17% on news of Desai's abrupt departure. The database maker named Dev Ittycheria as interim chief executive; he has held the role before, while the board searches for a permanent replacement.

For enterprises, the practical implication is more direct access to Meta's AI tools outside the traditional advertising ecosystem. For the market, it is another signal that the battle for enterprise customers is shifting from raw models to complete stacks with agents, APIs and coding tools — a space where Microsoft, Google and Amazon already have a significant foothold.
