Nordic countries emerge as Europe's AI infrastructure hub with Nvidia

The Nordic region, already leading Europe in unicorns per capita, is converting that advantage into one of the continent's most significant technology builds. The area benefits from a structural combination of abundant renewable energy, strict data governance and a research tradition that links academia and industry. AI cloud providers including Bitdeer, CoreWeave, Crusoe, Hyperstack, Nscale, Verda and Volta are expected to deploy 1 gigawatt of capacity across the region by the end of 2027, making the Nordics one of Europe's fastest-growing infrastructure centers.

In Sweden, a consortium led by Ericsson, AstraZeneca, Saab, SEB and Wallenberg Investments, with SKF as a strategic partner, has launched Sferical One, a shared supercomputer running on two Nvidia DGX SuperPODs with 16 racks of Nvidia DGX GB300 systems and 1,152 GPUs. Consortium members will build services on top of Nvidia's open Nemotron models, allowing researchers to customize and deploy models in a secured environment. The move marks a shift from ambition to practical implementation at national-infrastructure scale.

Nordic companies are building proprietary intelligence on that foundation. Spotify, which personalizes music, podcasts and audiobooks for hundreds of millions of listeners, has integrated Nvidia's TensorRT-LLM inference software to run AI-driven podcast recommendations faster and more cheaply at global scale — a case study in inference efficiency that delivers the same recommendations at lower cost per query. ABB Robotics developed RobotStudio HyperReality using Nvidia Omniverse libraries, achieving what the company says is 99% simulation accuracy while cutting runtime by 80%. Finnish telco Elisa is launching a beta of Moontalk AIRI, a real-time enterprise agent assistant built on open Nemotron models and distributed infrastructure.

The local startup ecosystem is compounding the momentum. Swedish startups raised $2.8 billion in the first half of 2026 and are on track for $5 billion for the full year. The next generation is building quickly, and on open models. Stockholm-based Stilta is retraining Nemotron models to expand patent analysis from single patents to entire portfolios, work that was previously out of reach. ConfidentialMind's SampoTron, built on Nemotron-3-Embed, achieves more than a 20% improvement in cross-lingual retrieval accuracy across English, Finnish and Swedish. Agaton uses Nemotron 3.5 Lightning to accelerate its Revenue Mining solution in live sales calls.
