Google launches dedicated student hub in Gemini for the new school year

Google is rolling out a student-focused workspace inside Gemini. The hub will serve as a single place to collect research notes, create flashcards, practice exams and more. Notebooks now support graphs and images, and the system can extract exam dates and deadlines from a syllabus and push them straight to Google Calendar.

Study notebook talks to calendar

The new feature lets students gather all course material in one notebook. The model can process text, charts and diagrams and turn them into memorization cards or practice questions. Integration with Google Calendar closes the loop: instead of copying due dates manually, the student receives them automatically as soon as the syllabus is added to the notebook.

Google Lens enters the classroom

Google adds the ability to examine assignments and get explanations on complex topics via Google Lens. A student can snap a problem or text snippet and receive a step-by-step solution, error detection and guidance without manually typing the content into a chat.

Deep Research arrives in Gemini Live

Deep Research is now embedded in Gemini Live. Users can ask the model to generate detailed research reports and discuss the findings in real time. If the process takes longer, the chat can be closed or the screen locked, and Gemini will send a notification when the report is ready, processing in the backend with a front-end alert.

Coming soon: capture a worksheet and get instant tutoring

In the coming weeks Google will add a mobile feature that scans a study sheet or worksheet, identifies the content, explains difficult concepts, offers pinpointed help and even provides “training” if an error is found—a visual tutor that runs on the device.

Subscriptions: free year for U.S. students, limited plan elsewhere

Students in the United States receive a free year of Google AI Pro, which includes 5 TB of storage, Google Health Premium, higher usage limits in Gemini and access to the model across all Google apps. Students outside the United States get Google AI Plus, offering 400 GB of storage and lower usage caps.
