Meta launches Mac app for Meta AI with system-wide dictation and screen reading

Meta released a dedicated Mac app for Meta AI that includes system-wide dictation, a feature that works in any open application without requiring specific integration. The model behind the screen-reading and contextual understanding capability is called Muse Spark, and it enables the assistant to answer questions based on what is currently shown on the display. The approach is similar to existing tools such as Wispr Flow, Superwhisper and Monologue, and Google rolled out a comparable update to its Gemini app for Mac last month.

The launch is part of a broader update aimed at business owners. Merchants can connect their Instagram and Facebook accounts, Meta ad campaigns, and the Google Workspace environment—including Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Slides—and receive insights through natural-language queries to the assistant. Meta AI can present campaign performance, audience-engagement metrics, and even competitive intelligence derived solely from publicly available data.

Beyond data retrieval, the new integration lets the assistant create pitch decks, polish documents and populate spreadsheets. This shifts the chatbot from merely answering questions to performing genuine production work within existing workflows. The Workspace connection gives Meta a foothold in an ecosystem where many businesses already manage their content, without demanding migration to a new platform.

The move fits a larger strategy: Meta is focusing on turning its AI tools into an automated support and customer-service platform for WhatsApp and Instagram. In the Q2 2026 investor call, Mark Zuckerberg said there is a big opportunity to sell agents to businesses and automate work on their behalf. The new Mac app and business integrations constitute the first concrete step in that direction.
