Google turns AI Mode into a travel agent that actually books

Google announced Thursday that it is expanding the planning and booking capabilities in AI Mode, its conversational search experience, turning it from an information-finding tool into a platform that executes parts of the booking process itself. Users can now ask the system to track flight prices, book hotels and see costs in loyalty-program points or miles.

Flight tracking across 180 countries

The new feature lets users describe where and when they want to fly, and AI Mode surfaces the best options with current prices from more than 300 airlines and travel sites. Anyone not ready to commit can ask the system to "track these prices" and receive an email alert when the fare changes for the dates and destination entered. The service is already live in more than 180 countries.

Hotel booking through conversation

On the hotel side, users describe their trip and preferences and receive a curated list of options with reviews and key parameters. After choosing a property, they ask AI Mode to complete the booking and select the "Continue on Google" option that appears alongside integrated partners — among them Booking.com, Choice Hotels, Expedia, Hilton, Hotels.com, IHG, Marriott, Priceline, Trip.com and Wyndham. From there they pick a room, review cancellation policies and pay with Google Pay. Google makes clear that the hotel or booking platform remains responsible for the reservation itself and for customer support.

The hotel-booking rollout began in the United States in English and will expand in the coming weeks with the full partner inventory. At the same time, the ability to display costs in points or miles is available worldwide starting now. A user can ask, for example, "I want to fly from Atlanta to Miami using American Airlines miles, find me direct flights on October 9 and return on October 12," and receive the mileage required for each matching option.
