Anthropic launches dedicated Claude team plan for researchers with 10,000 free seats

Anthropic is rolling out a "Claude Team plan for scientists" starting today, offering 10,000 initial seats to principal investigators at academic institutions and non-profit organizations, who can then add members of their research groups. Standard seats are free; premium seats with usage limits five times higher cost $15 per month, an 80% discount for the first year.

The move builds on two earlier initiatives. In June the company launched "Claude Science," an interface and resource hub aimed at the scientific community, and the "AI for Science" program, which awards free credits to projects with high potential impact. Anthropic says the model has recently become more capable in scientific work, with progress on problems ranging from advanced physics calculations to protein design.

Principal investigators or holders of equivalent roles at eligible institutions can register now and add their teams. The company says it intends to expand the program well beyond the initial 10,000 seats in the coming months, though it did not provide a specific numerical target or exact timeline.
