Meta opens WhatsApp Business to code agents that handle account setup

Meta has launched a dedicated Model Context Protocol server for WhatsApp Business, letting code agents such as Claude, Cursor, Codex, and ChatGPT complete the entire onboarding flow in a single chat session. Until now developers had to jump between the developer console, Business Manager, the API reference, and various IDs; the agent now handles those steps in the background.

Under the hood the agent creates the WhatsApp Business account, adds and verifies the phone number, registers the business for the Cloud API, and accepts the terms of service — all the boilerplate that previously consumed hours of manual work. It can also create or edit message templates, run webhook tests, and monitor the items that tend to fail silently: terms-of-service compliance, payment methods, and business verification.

Beyond initial onboarding, the new server lets the agent manage day-to-day configuration: updating templates, checking webhook status, and ensuring nothing slips through the cracks. Meta notes that its Meta Social Technologies MCP server rounds out the picture with endpoint discovery, documentation search, and API error troubleshooting.

Meta is not alone in this space. PayPal, Stripe, GitHub, Notion, Slack, Salesforce, Atlassian, X, Google, and Microsoft already operate their own MCP servers. Meta's move expands its existing MCP suite — which previously covered ad management and app-configuration monitoring — into a new domain: getting businesses onto WhatsApp Business without requiring developers to write integration code.

The announcement arrived alongside new Meta subscription plans centered on AI capabilities. The goal is to drive technical friction to zero so businesses can go live faster and developers can stop burning cycles on tedious integration work and focus on business logic.
