Meta launches Muse for Mac with file and calendar control

Meta's new AI application, Muse, is now available to Mac users. On the desktop the agent can operate inside the system's native apps — files, messages, calendar, notes and mail — and take actions on the user's behalf. The release arrives weeks after the mobile and web debut, where the app quickly climbed to the top of the US App Store download chart.

Access to data works on the same explicit, per-component consent model used on other platforms. Before any action classified as sensitive, the app requests an additional confirmation from the user, according to Meta. The design is intended to shrink the attack surface and keep control with the person at the keyboard.

The launch comes as competition among consumer AI agents sharpens. Many in the industry expect the category to define the future of personal computing, disrupting the app economy, SaaS models and potentially even hardware such as the iPhone. Every major player now offers an agent of its own, and some have found traction through simple text interfaces. Poke, one of the early breakout hits in the space, was acquired by Cognition in July. Meanwhile, the most talked-about agent in tech circles right now, Instinct, is reportedly raising a round at a $10 billion valuation.

The central question now is who can capture the largest consumer share fastest. That pressure is driving Muse and Instinct to ship new capabilities at a dizzying pace; both released voice chat this week. As Mark Zuckerberg noted on X when announcing the Mac app: "the team ships fast."
